What Do the Beverly Hillbillies Have to do with the Camino?

This morning I was listening to the radio reporting that 64 year-old Diana Nyad had completed her 110-mile (53 hour) swim from Havana to Key West Florida, this being her 5th attempt to do so.

Before a previous attempt a friend had a question for her,

Diana, what do you think about out there? Are you thinking about the mystery of the ocean, you know, how the tide’s effect – you know, affected by the moon and whatnot?

Diana said,

sometimes I do go there. But to be really frank with you, right that minute I was singing “The Beverly Hillbillies” theme song 2,000 times.

It’s like that way for me (and I’m sure some others that don’t use their I-Pods) because you need something to keep you focused on the ridiculous amount of walking you have to do. It also helps your brain not ask the question when the body is in pain,

What the hell am I doing walking so much?

Congratulations Diana, and all you Peregrinos out there remember to keep sing as you walk!
